Cupping is the application of a vacuum at the skin’s surface for a therapeutic effect. Traditional cupping uses a flame to achieve the vacuum, while modern techniques may use a mechanical or pressure method. Cupping is useful for healing old injuries, heading off an impending cold, invigorating a tired body, and restoring warmth and flexibility to stiff muscles (among many other applications). The technique tends to leave pink, red or purple marks, but these will resolve in 3-7 days.
